Exhibit Videos

Started in 1973, RAGBRAI (Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa) is considered to be the longest, largest and oldest bicycle touring event in the world. In honor of its 40th anniversary, a 3,000-square-foot exhibit was opened at the Iowa State Historical Museum in Des Moines to showcase Iowa’s cycling history and the RAGBRAI experience. Bringing some local passion to the project, Silver Oaks teamed up with 1220 Exhibits and HealyKohler Design to develop the media portion for the “Riding Through History – A River-to-RiverLegacy on Wheels” exhibit.

“Riding Through History”

“Riding Through History” is a 3½-minute photographic narrative that greets visitors as they enter the exhibit area. The looping video features a range of historic black and white photos, as well as modern-day RAGBRAI photos – capturing the celebration of Iowa pride of both the communities and riders.

“8 Days of Pride”

“8 Days of Pride” provides a fun glimpse of the life and spirit of RAGBRAI – highlighting a cross section of the colorful personalities found along the way of the roughly 470-mile ride. Viewed on a large projection screen, the video creatively intertwines interviews with custom-cropped photos and footage in circular windows that mimic bicycle wheels, while other graphics spin across the screen.
