Morton Buildings

Display Room & Timeline Interactive

Silver Oaks worked with Morton Buildings to design a room to display historical images and artifacts for employees and guests to enjoy. Morton Buildings, formerly known as Interlocking Fence Company, has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. While remodeling their building, the original Interlocking Fence Company building was unearthed. Luckily, over many decades the staff was diligent in keeping photos, blueprints, advertisements, and catalogs. Silver Oaks was able to showcase those items in the room's design, window boxes, and a touchscreen interactive.

Display Room

Silver Oaks recreated the original Interlocking Fence Company sign at the front of the building while placing the Morton “M” logo in the middle of the floor. The windows were replaced with glass shelves to display artifacts and the wallpaper was custom designed from a collection of photos spanning 100 years.

Since Morton Buildings wanted the room to be used for meetings and social events, Silver Oaks added two glass panels to divide the room with life-sized photos etched inside the glass. This feature separates the training area from the social area and also maintains the openness of the room, allowing visitors to see from end to end.

During renovations, an old safe was discovered inside the building, and the client wanted to incorporate it into their museum space. Silver Oaks utilized the old vault door to display a custom-programmed touchscreen interactive. The interactive showcases images from each decade including images, blueprints, and flipbooks. Silver Oaks also designed the “Into the Vault” sign as a play on the vault concept.

Interactive Design

Silver Oaks programmed a touchscreen interactive designed to share Morton’s story from the 1900s to the present day. Each decade displays images including catalogs, newspaper advertisements, blueprints, and photos, all featuring descriptions. The interactive touch screen not only preserves the company’s rich history but also showcases the company’s growth spanning over 100 years.
