Lewis and Clark Fort Mandan Interpretive Center

Interpretive Center Multimedia

The Silver Oaks team created an Interpretive Center in Washburn, North Dakota, that highlights the Lewis and Clark Expedition, specifically their time spent at Fort Mandan during the winter of 1804-1805. Silver Oaks developed three touchscreen interactives to complement the large collection of Lewis and Clark-era artifacts.

Centennial Farms

“Centennial Farms” honors North Dakota’s agricultural heritage by featuring a database of the families that have lived on and/or owned their farms or ranches for more than a century. The interactive program allows visitors to search by name or county for a family farm to see its stats.

Art and Observation

“Art and Observation” runs on two touchscreen “easels” positioned in front of a diorama portraying a famous aquatint done by Karl Bodmer. Users can take an “Observation Challenge,” or they can try their skill at creating their own aquatint through a touchscreen painting activity. The program saves a file of their painting so they have the option to take home a print of their masterpiece.

Knowledge of the Day

“Knowledge of the Day” is integrated into a bookcase exhibit, where a touchscreen is housed in a sliding ladder in front of the bookcase. As the visitor slides the ladder between the four columns of shelves, the content on the screen transitions to reveal explanations about the artifacts displayed in that column.
