Desiring to raise public awareness about their Retain the Rain program, River Action partnered with Silver Oaks to develop a mobile touchscreen kiosk. Exhibited in public venues, the kiosk educates users about the damaging effects of storm water runoff and provides them with eight ways to avoid it.
For each method, users can see, through detailed diagrams, how it works; get a materials list; and locate on an interactive map where similar methods have already been locally installed. In addition, an interactive calculator feature enables users to assess the effectiveness of each method in retaining rainfall. Designed as an educational tool, the computer-based kiosk was created to collect data gathered from user input, allowing River Action to track interest levels and determine communication needs within their program.
